Portland, OR — April 10, 2006 — The Paley Bar™, a whole food nutrition
bar, will be available for consumers at all 22 Whole Foods Markets throughout Oregon,
Washington, and Northern California, according to Vitaly Paley, creator of the Paley
Bar and chef/owner of Paley’s Place in Portland, Oregon. The Paley Bar is made with
organic fruits and nuts sourced from many local farms in the Pacific Northwest.
Using only a few, all-natural ingredients such as ginger, organic raisins, apricots,
strawberries or figs, the bars have no preservatives and are dairy and wheat free.
“Paley Bar’s great taste and unique flavors set them apart from other bars on the
market,” said Dave Chavez, Whole Foods buyer.
“I am excited for the Paley Bar to
join other nutrition bars as part of Whole Food’s commitment to organic and healthful
living, said Paley, who believes in the value of a wholesome snack made with only
a few ingredients. “I have partnered with farmers for years and I see the Paley
Bar as an extension of what I practice every day in my restaurant – knowing the
source of my ingredients.”
An avid cyclist, Paley consumed every brand of energy
bar over the years, and quickly became frustrated by the taste and quality of these
bars. “I began the design for an alternative energy bar for myself and for so many
others who were tired of the same old flat flavors and even flatter textures,” said
Paley, who was honored with the 2005 James Beard Award for Best Chef Pacific Northwest.
“I am a perfectionist in the kitchen and wanted the ingredients in my nutrition
bar to follow the same high standard I set in the restaurant night after night.”
Paley Bar’s FruityNut Evolution is made from organic
apricots, blueberries, cranberries, figs, dry roasted hazelnuts and almonds. Liquid Sunshine
includes organic dark chocolate, pecans, walnuts and ginger. Jam’n Peanuts
includes organic dry roasted peanuts, raisins, strawberries and dates.
All of the bars are mixed with fiber rich oat bran and honey and boast a healthy
32 to 41 grams of carbohydrates and a fat content of 1.5 to 10 grams derived from
heart healthy nut oils. Paley Bar, a balanced meal with 180 to 230 calories, is
also dairy and wheat free. This whole food energy bar is made from organic and sustainably
farmed ingredients and uses an eco-friendly wrapper made with biodegradable materials.
Created in 2004 by Vitaly Paley, award-winning chef and co-owner
of Paley’s Place in Portland, Oregon, the Paley Bar contains organic fruits and
nuts and is available in three flavors: FruityNut Evolution, Liquid
Sunshine and Jam’n Peanuts.
Suggested retail is $2.00 each. All Paley Bars are available
at specialty grocers and athletic and outdoor stores throughout the country, including
Whole Foods, Zupan’s Markets, New Seasons, Pastaworks and the Bike Gallery. For
